“Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.”

The Revelation Seals in Matthew 24

Discussion:

  • Yeshua teachings coincide with the seals in Revelation
  • Third seal sealing of the 144,000 is in Revelation 6
  • You will be delivered up to tribulation, not from it. Matthew 24:9
  • God’s servants are visible all through the seven seals in Revelation

Matthew 24

Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive manyAnd you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

The Great Tribulation

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. 18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

23 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.

26 “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

The Coming of the Son of Man

29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

In the first two verses of this chapter, Yeshua gives His prophetic insight/prediction concerning the destruction of the Temple (Beit HaMikdash), and this would, of course, mean the destruction of Jerusalem. The disciples then ask three questions: When will these things be? What will be the sign of Your coming, and the end of the age (ketz haolam hazeh)? Besides these things, He also spoke to them concerning His death, burial and resurrection. He was preparing them for things to come. Even after His death, there are things that are determined to happen. The disciples have to digest all that Yeshua has taught them, and it is a lot of information. They are enjoying His ministry, while at moments pondering on those things to come, and how the puzzle fits together.

So, in this moment they are considering the weight of His words concerning the Temple (Beit haMikdash), and how it fits in with His reservoir of words concerning His death, resurrection, and future return. Apparently, they do believe He will return again. In private conversation, they ask: “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” They ask for the sign, but Yeshua gives them several signs. These signs all line up with Revelation. When all these signs begin to occur, they will portend His return.

Right off, Yeshua’s response is for them to not allow anyone to deceive them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.” He expands on that deception by saying there would be those who would call the false christ(s) the Messiah: “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand. 26 Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. These false christs will make their appearance in the earth, not the heaven. The antichrist will not come in the clouds, but out of the sea of the nations. Revelation 13.

In contrast, Yeshua’s coming will be dramatic and epic.

Matthew 24:30, Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Acts 1:9-11, Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Revelation 1:7, says, “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye shall see Him.”

If anyone says Yeshua returns any other way, that is, besides being in the clouds, that person is deceived, and seeks to deceive you. Every eye will see His return, everyone will know it. Do not be deceived, Yeshua will come back once, and it consists of taking vengeance on those nations who attack Israel (see Zechariah 12). His coming marks the end of this age, and the beginning of another, which is the Messianic Age of the Covenant of Shalom. His kingdom of righteousness and justice will last 1000 years.

As said before, the events that Yeshua spoke of in Matthew 24 follow the opening of the seals pattern given in Revelation 6. I will point those passages out and compare them with Revelation 6. The first seal is speaking of a false christ.

First Seal

Revelation 6

1 Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

The one who sat upon it had a bow. The Greek word for bow is toxon. In Strong’s concordance it is shown to be from the root Tikto which means to spring forth or to sprout up or produce or to spring forth or travail. What is being brought forth or birthed is the evil plans of wicked and corrupt human beings. They seek to deceive and the deception is great. It has gone through the nations and subdued them.

Toxon is where we get the word toxic, poisonous. We can read the passage this way: And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a toxon, and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

In ancient Greece fighters with bows would put poison on the tips of their arrows. The absence of arrows being mentioned does not mean the rider does not have them, for in the ancient past, to have a bow meant that arrows were present and these were considered one unit.

I am still trying to figure out how some make the mistake of associating this horseman with Yeshua the Messiah. Yeshua never carried a bow. When He returns, He will not have a bow. He will have the Word, and will use it as a sword to destroy those who hate Him. The Word will destroy His enemies. The horseman with the poisoned bow is not the church and is not Yeshua.

The horseman is given a crown and instructed to conquer, to subdue the earth, the globe. Covid was developed by evil men (the Mammonites) who have subdued the whole globe through deceitful means. Never had anything like this been seen in history where the whole globe has come under the power of only a few mega-psychopaths. What is even more disconcerting is how multitudes within the nations have submitted to this great deception.

The crown the horseman is given is not a diadem, but a stephanus, which is a wreath, decorative wreath worn on the head; crown. Also, properly, as a mark of royal or (in general) exalted rank.

From an apparently primary stepho (to twine or wreathe); a chaplet (as a badge of royalty, a prize in the public games or a symbol of honor generally; but more conspicuous and elaborate than the simple fillet, diadema), literally or figuratively — crown.

This horseman is given the authority to conquer, to subdue.

*Modern archers are known as toxophilites or ‘bow lovers’, toxophily is the sport of archery.

White can symbolize pure evil. Deception is guised under the banner of purity when in reality it is to conquer and subdue.

Second Seal

Matthew 24, 6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.

This aligns with Revelation 6: 4 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second the second living creature saying: “Come and see.” Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.”

This is the second sign Yeshua listed in His teaching; people will kill each other. This must come to pass.

Third Seal

Matthew 24, 7And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

This passage parallels with Revelation 6:5-8, When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”

There are actually three signs that indicate His return: famines, pestilences (disease), and earthquakes.

Fourth Seal

The first three seals overlap with the fourth seal. Revelation 6: When He opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

It seems there are actually two horsemen, one is Death and Hades follows with him.

Note: I boldfaced ‘do not harm the oil and wine,’ because it is here, I am thinking, the 144,000 in Revelation 7 are sealed. Oil and wine are used for medicinal purposes. It was the Samaritan, in Luke 10, who cleansed and dressed the wounds of an injured man with oil and wine. Oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit, and used for consecration of kings and priests. Wine can be used as a disinfectant for wounds and is symbolic of inspiration. The grape and olive tree blossoms break forth in the spring. Olives grow on trees and grapes on vines. If latter rains come too hard, or the wind is aggressive, the blossoms fall off prematurely, and bear no fruit for fall.  I would think these two items will be plentiful as the command is they should not be harmed, and this may be in reference to the 144,000 that will be sealed in Revelation 7:3. They will be sealed before the antichrist makes his appearance in seal five. I will go over this a little more.

Let us take a look at the fifth seal in Revelation 6:9-11 and compare it to what Yeshua said in Matthew 24.

Fifth Seal

Matthew 24:9-10,   Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.

Yeshua is giving in chronological order the opened seals in Revelation 6. He tells His disciples the tribulation will not be avoided, and ‘you’ will be delivered up to great suffering—not from it.  We are on the cusp of this tribulation that will encompass the whole world, and one should settle it in one’s heart to endure it when it comes. The beast will have made his appearance and will persecute the servants of God who insist that he, the beast, is not God. This tribulation that Yeshua speaks of is the fifth seal that the Apostle John records in Revelation 6.

Revelation 6:9-11, When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those  who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.

The beast will be present from the first seal, but his coming will be evident by the fifth seal. It is he who will kill the saints (the witnesses), and the 144,000.

The beast persecuting and killing the children of God is another indicator, or sign, that His return is close at hand.

Revelation 7:9-10, 13-14

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?14 And I said to him, “Sir, you know.” So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

The 144,000 endure the persecution, and not just them, but multitudes from many nations.

I am going to finish what I said earlier about the 144,000. The third seal, the oil and wine, this is when they will be sealed.

Revelation 6:6, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”

Earlier I said that if rain comes too hard and the winds too aggressive, the blossoms would prematurely fall from the grape vines and olive trees. There would be no fruit in the fall to harvest. I compare it to Revelation 7 where the four winds of the earth are held back until the 144,000 are sealed.

Revelation 7:1-4, After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any treeThen I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed.

At the time of no harming of the trees, as stated above, the 144,000 will be sealed. We can estimate it is the time of at least the third seal where there will be no heavy winds to wreak havoc on the olive trees and grape vines.

Also, we find the sealed are still visible in Revelation 9 under the fifth trumpet of the seventh seal (the seventh seal had been opened in Revelation 8)

Revelation 9:1-6

Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

This is so interesting, the sealed 144,000, or maybe some of them, will be present during the first woe, which is the fifth trumpet of the seventh seal, and they will not be tormented by the locusts from the abyss. Only those unsealed. The 144,000 are the only ones we are told are sealed. We are not given a lot of information on the saints or the two witnesses, other than they are martyred.

If the 144,000 are to be gone by the seventh seal as some teach, the angel would not have had to clarify which men to torment, for all people would be unsealed. I am saying there are going to be some people running around sealed with the seal of God, and will not be harmed by these locusts. Those that are not sealed will not die, but will be tormented five months. It is quite possible that this will be the remaining five months left until the return of Yeshua. We leave it to the future to be seen. After this, two trumpets are left to be blown which are the final two woes. The last trumpet will herald the last 7 plagues.

Yeshua moves on to the sixth seal.

Matthew 24:29-30, Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

And Revelation 6:2-17, I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. 13 And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. 14 Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. 15 And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

This is another sign that Yeshua’s return is quite near. The mountains will literally be moved out of their places. We are not given details on how long the sun will be dark or the moon blood. It will be temporary as Revelation 16 does say the sun will scorch men under the seventh seal and fourth bowl judgment.

Revelation 16:8, Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.

The wrath of God on Babylon is reserved for the seventh seal and seventh bowl judgment.

Revelation 16:17

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.

19 Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.

Revelation 18 should actually go before Revelation 16, because in this chapter (18) God’s people are urgently told to leave before the seventh bowl judgment. He does not want them to endure this last bowl of wrath. He is giving them time to escape, like Lot and his family had in the days of the destruction of Sodom

Revelation18 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”

And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall

“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’

11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’

19 “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she [i]is made desolate.’

20 “Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”

Finality of Babylon’s Fall

21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore. 22 The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore. 23 The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.”

I understand people want to get out of here and not suffer for the witness of Yeshua, but Yeshua stated His people would be delivered up to tribulation. Tribulation is not reserved for the ‘left behind.’ No where does the word specifically mention a ‘left behind’ people, either in His teachings or in Revelation. However, the teaching has made the creators of this quite wealthy while giving a message people want to hear. It sounds good to the flesh, therefore, it must be truth. It is sad to put hope in a false teaching.

The letters to the seven churches in Revelation 4 are direct commands for them to overcome.

Revelation 2

To the church of Ephesus: He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.

To the church of Smyrna: Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.

And to the angel of the church of Pergamos: He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.

To the angel of the church of Thyatira: And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—

He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels

as I also have received from My Father; and I will give him the morning star.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

To the angel of the church in Philadelphia: Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

And to the angel of the church of Laodiceans: To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

It appears that no matter the situation each church is experiencing, as a whole, they are counseled to hear the Spirit, and to overcome.

Summary

Yeshua prepares all people to hear the message of His return. He bids everyone to come to the Marriage Feast of the Lamb. He is transparent and gives the critical details necessary that will alert readers to the final phases of His coming before the end of the age. The book of Revelation expands on His teachings in Matthew 24, and fills in the gaps that Yeshua did not discuss.

The signs of Yeshua’s return are:

  • Many deceivers
  • Many wars, this would include internal conflict
  • Famines
  • Pestilences
  • Earthquakes
  • The appearance of false christs/prophets
  • Tribulation/Persecution/Betrayal
  • The sun darkened, the moon to blood
  • The Seventh Seal/Trumpets/Bowl Judgments

His return will consist of:

  • The fall of Babylon
  • The destruction of the antichrist in Israel. Ezekiel 39:11, Revelation 19:17-21
  • The resurrection. I Thessalonians 4:15-17, Revelation 20:4-6
  • The caught up (harpazo).  I Thessalonians 4:15-17
