A few thousand years before Freud and Jung were debating their theories on the purposes of dreams, the Bible already had some general principles in regard to them.
Job 33:14-15
For God does speak—now one way, now another—though man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds.
It conveys that God communicates to people, and that He uses various means to get His message across. However, people do not always discern this and dismiss the dream, perhaps thinking it was a result of eating pizza too late in the evening. But people in the Bible would pay attention to dreams, visions and prophetic utterances.
In the Old Testament are many examples of dreams having been experienced and recorded for our benefit. Abimelech was threatened in a dream that if he had he had intercourse with Sarah, Abraham’s wife, he would die. Jacob dreamed of a ladder on his journey to his uncle’s house.
This turned out to be the location to build the future Temple in Israel. Joseph dreamed of being elevated above his brothers. He also interpreted Pharaoh’s dream of an approaching famine. The sister and brother of Moses were prophetic dreamers. Gideon interpreted a dream that suggested they would win the battle against the Amalekites, and they did. King Nebuchadnezzar dreamed and Daniel interpreted it.
In the New Testament, Joseph, the stepfather of Yeshua, had several warning dreams of relocating his family to avoid danger. Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, experienced a vision in the Temple concerning the conception and birth of his son.
There are some believers today who argue against dreams, visions and prophecy, by saying, “Dreams were God’s way of speaking to His people under the Old Covenant, but not for today. In our time God speaks to us through the Scriptures.”
However, that’s not the view of Peter in Acts 2 where he declared on the day of Pentecost/Shavuot: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy.” He went on to quote Joel where young men would see visions and old men would dream dreams.
According to the prophetic word of Joel dreams are for our age, because dreams, visions and prophecy belong to those in the last days; the days we live in.
In another place, Peter experiences a vision where all sorts of unclean animals are lowered in a sheet to him and he is commanded to eat of the unclean animals. He refuses because being a Jew he ate only kosher meat. Then he was instructed to not call what God has called clean unclean. God meant for Peter to not hold to his Jewish prejudices against the gentiles coming into the kingdom of God through Yeshua. God would never ask anyone to break His teachings. Unclean animals will remain unclean until the Messianic kingdom.
The Word also teaches us that not every dream is from God, “…a dream comes when there are many cares…” (Eccl 5:3) Satan can give counterfeit dreams, especially when the dreamer is involved in occult activities, sexual addictions or perversions, and if holding to hatred, unforgiveness, bitterness, etc. Because dreams and visions are infused with symbolic images, it can be difficult to properly interpret them. Symbols have different meanings to different people. It can take years to develop the skill of analyzing dreams.
Sometimes it is helpful to form a small group of trusted individuals in which to share dreams and visions in order to help hash out the meaning. I have journaled over twenty years of dreams. Many of my dreams were on a personal level and have come to pass. I will only share those that serve as warnings to this nation and the nations.
God has continually spoken to me that we are in the end of days, and this agrees with the Word. The world, its condition, its lack of morality will not change. We are living in the evil day. We are living at a time where church leaders molest children, and orgies are performed after church in basements.
It is imperative that this nation, this people, would understand to repent and return to God. This nation has alienated itself from life in God and has chosen death. No politician will make this nation great again as long as this people will continue celebrating its sins and lording them over others. God’s remnant people have been given the commission to continue giving sound biblical truth in spite of the incredible pressure of the world for the church to conform to its standards. God is still speaking to His church and to the nations. We are living in a profound time of the revelation of God.
